Safety Restraint System

Safety Restraint System

The destructive force of an unrestrained flow line rupture, regardless of the cause, can be catastrophic to both people and equipment. The SPM® flow line safety restraint system (FSR) is designed to help contain high-pressure piping and components in case of flow line rupture during pumping.

SPM® maintains a fleet of rental FSR units at strategically located service centers worldwide, ready for onsite delivery. The rental fleet undergoes rigorous inspection to make sure all components are ready when needed and meet rigorous performance standards. Each component features identification and inspection badges that verify its regulatory compliance. Highly trained technicians deliver the unit and provide onsite installation services. Watch the video below to see destructive testing from the field.

First offered in 2000, the FSR system is used both onshore and offshore to increase safety during pumping operations. It received the Best Mechanical Engineering Innovation Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2002.

It is approved by several major exploration and production companies for use in pumping operations and accepted by WorkSafeBC (Workers’ Compensation Board of British Columbia) for compliance with a government mandate that flow line piping systems be anchored and restrained during well testing or stimulation operations.

Key Features & Benefits

The FSR system utilizes interlocking synthetic loops that are strung the length of the flow line (spine), and attached to critical points of the flow line through smaller loops (ribs). This assembly is then anchored to a substantial structural tie-down, such as the pumping unit or offshore rig structure. Ribs and spines of the system transmit separation forces to the anchor point and dissipate large amounts of energy over a longer period of time.

The SPM® FSR system has been used in both onshore and offshore applications around the world since 2000 to increase safety during pumping operations. It has been tested and honored by the industry for its innovation and performance.
